Description: Please choose the number of seeds you want. The shipping remains the same price for whatever amount you choose. We have seeds from our paw paw patch that originated in the wilds of West Virginia from a grove that extends over a few acres. We think these taste like banana vanilla custard. While these seeds will ship from PA, they are different from our PA seed offering. If you prefer our PA Paw Paws, please see our other listing. We think our PA Paw Paws taste like pineapple banana cream. We don't use pesticides and we don't have pest problems with either of our paw paw patches. If you'd like a mix of the two, we have a listing for that as well. This is a link to our PA Paw Paws https://www.ebay.com/itm/165692271958 For both PA & WV seeds & a discount for more seed https://www.ebay.com/itm/165690518121 The seeds are priced each. If you want 10 seeds, you place a 10 in the box, the price will be $9.90 plus shipping. While the package will be relatively light, the seeds will ship in moist peat and since it will be over 1/4" thick, the USPS requires it be shipped as a package. The lowest rate for a package shipped USPS for 3 oz, is $5.25. If you order a lot of seeds, the shipping will be the same rate, so it's best to get all you need at one time. You can also choose priority shipping. If you are out of the US, and use the global shipping program or a forwarder, please make sure customs won't seize your seeds. I don't ship out of the US. How to help reduce shipping costs: Shipping could be a LOT cheaper, but Ebay requires tracking for sellers to be TRS. You can help reduce shipping on seed orders by asking Ebay to extend their ESE program (Ebay Standard Envelope) , used for coins and baseball cards, to include seeds. 05-31 update Seeds are priced each, If you want more than 1 seed, you must change the number in the box before adding to cart. I've had many orders for 1 seed only, in the past, I have reached out to the buyer to make sure they want only one seed because as a gardener I know I usually don't take the chance of having only 1 seed planted, some people only want one, some people wanted more and made a mistake in ordering, some people didn't bother to read the description. Sometimes I send 2 seeds, but even that as a gardener seems not enough, without changing the entire structure of this ad, I am adding this paragraph in the hopes that more people will read what they're getting as I will now send what is ordered without following up before the order ships. How to plant your seeds: When you get seeds from Sam (that's the person behind these amazing seeds), you're getting seeds that were harvested in September 2022 from fresh fruit. Once the seeds are harvested and cleaned (a very messy job), they are kept moist and in the refrigerator. This begins their stratification. What you do with your seeds upon arrival will depend mostly on your climate. You can plant them as soon as the ground is workable. We prefer planting individually in pots or together in a tub that we cover with screens to keep the critters away. Please keep in mind that while you think your seed isn't growing, it sends it's taproot down before sending a sprout up. If you'll have cold temps, you can just plant in the ground where you'll want them to grow, or in pots outside or in a cold area and let nature stratify them. If you'll have warmer temps of lack time now, keep them in the refrigerator and keep them moist until planting time. No matter what, do not let your seeds dry out. Dried out seeds will not grow. Dried out seeds are dead seeds. Leaving a seed sit out unprotected (not in it's moist peat or towel) for even an hour has been known to drop germination to 20%. When we started our paw paw journey years ago, we purchased a gallon size zip lock bag of seeds that was advertised as a pound of seeds through Ebay. I now know that that many seeds should have weighed about 5 pounds. They were light weight and very light in color. They were dried out. NOT ONE GREW, NOT ONE. That seller is still on ebay, still selling paw paw seeds, hopefully he has learned and no longer sells dried out seeds. The seeds Sam packs for you will be packed in moist peat and perlite. We do not ship seeds outside the US. If you want seedlings, we offer some in the spring, so feel free to check back. They will be dormant and bare root. Those will ship priority ONLY. We don't use any pesticides, we grow organically. Paw Paw Information: Paw Paw , Asimina Triloba, is a native small understory tree or large shrub which typically grows 15-20' tall (sometimes to 30') and occurs in low bottom woods, wooded slopes, ravines and along streams. Often spreads by root suckers to form colonies or thickets. While the tree needs shade in it's 1st few years, it will thrive in full sun after that time. We recommend mulching the trees with wood chips, leaves or untreated mulch to avoid the soil drying out. When we want our trees in full sun, we place a normal sized plastic lawn chair over them when they're small for sun protection. We also wrap chicken wire around the legs of the chair to keep hungry critters from nibbling the bark or digging the seedlings up. Placing a brick on top of the chair will keep the shade cover from blowing away. You can, of course, make a shade house out of 1x2 lumber and landscape fabric. While this looks very nice, it tends to blow away easily. Pawpaws (Asimina triloba) often confused with papayas, is the largest native fruit in North America. It grows on trees, and is the only tropical fruit of the Annonaceae family that is able to grow in this part of the world. It’s ability to grow in forest areas makes it harvestable throughout North America, specifically from Southern Canada, to the Northern Florida, and every midwest state in between. The flavor of the pawpaw is described as very sweet, with flavors that are said to lie somewhere between bananas, pineapples, and pears. Typically, pawpaws are consumed raw, but they can also be included in breads, baked goods, & smoothies. They’re said to make a great substitute for mangos and bananas as well. Pawpaws have been recorded into history for centuries. In fact, it is rumored that U.S. president George Washington was a fan of the fruit, and that Lewis and Clark ate pawpaws during their expedition. During the great depression, pawpaws were called the “poor-mans banana”, since they were cheaper and more accessible than bananas during this rough time. Seeds may have leftover organic material on them as seen in pictures. The seeds need 90 days of cold to grow. We keep ours in the refrigerator or plant them out in a cold frame. How you do it will depend on your climate and how much time you have.
