Description: Original 1959 pastel art drawing by Frank Thompson owner of the Greenwich Village Cornelia street (Thompson Gallery) Frank Thompson was a fixture of the 60s pop art movement and played a pivotal role in the GAA (Gay Activists Alliance) and many other important gay organizations of the times. It was at Frank Thompson's Gallery where they came up with the name GAA. Thompson's Gallery also held GAA meetings early on in its infancy stages as well. The Thompson's gallery was right on the same street as the famous Caffe Cino and was frequented by many artist, performers and pop icons such as Andy Warhol, Charles Ludlam, Sam Shepard, John Vaccaro, Al Pacino, Robert Heide, Doric Wilson, Tennessee Williams and others. Frank Thompson was known for his controversial homoerotic paintings and drawings. Upon his death in 1994 most of his work sat waterlogged and and damaged at his Cornelia Street gallery basement. Frank Thompson's brother handed over the Remaining archive to (The Center-The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center) located at 213 West 13th Street in N.Y where they currently reside as catolog #29 (The Thompson Papers). Pastel drawing with frame measures roughly 27" X 21" and image itself measures 19" X 14" I recently had the piece rematted and it is in excellent condition but frame has some slight blemishes but nothing egregious. Item will be shipped with great care to avoid damage. Please feel free to ask any questions or request additional photos. Thanks for looking.
