Description: A gorgeous five-stone paste ring in solid 9 carat gold, dating from the mid Georgian period!At the time this ring was made, clear glass paste stones were the state of the art - as clear and bright as diamonds with their own strong lustre, and were cut by the same gemcutters as would work on diamonds. They commanded a similar price and were highly sought after at this grade.These stones are an extremely unusual early French cut - each butting right up against its neighbour and with incredible large, beautifully shaped facets around the entire stone. The stunning taper across the stones enhances the ring's sense of perspective, and coupled with the deep cut of the stones and their bright, reflective foiled backs, creates a wonderful impression of depth and character.It has a gorgeous simple, sturdy D-section gold band that fits perfectly with the form of the piece. But my favourite aspect of this ring is the detail in the castellation surrounding the head and enhancing the pastes. In solid silver to enhance the stones' colour, it's entirely hand done and draws attention around the head wonderfully.It dates to around 1810 and is in amazing condition for its age, with only light wear to the stones and metal, with no cracks, chips or other damage and is ready to wear.
