Description: A very good original architectural etching by the famous Italian artist, Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1778). His work is held by every major museum in the world. Signed (printed) in the description under the image: "Piranesi Archit. dis. inc.". Please view all posted photos. The subject is the ruins of an ancient Roman aqueduct. It's a good impression. Sharp, dark lines. No blurring. The paper is watermarked, though I have been unable to interpret the words (and what appears to be an image). The printed area is about 4 1/2 by 7 1/2 inches not counting the description underneath the image. The sheet is about 11 by 15 1/2 inches. While the image is free of foxing, there is some scattered spotting in the sheet, as well as a few edge tears. Out of the estate of an old California bookseller.
