Gettysburg – Little Round Top – Civil War Relics - 5630

Description: Original artifacts excavated on the Civil War Battlefields around Fredericksburg, Virginia. They would have been the same type equipment and ammunition carried at Gettysburg. At center are the remains of a pocket knife. The flat button that would have been issued with a Confederate uniform is at top. The other artifacts, percussion caps, a haversack buckle and rivets used on leather equipment were used by both sides. The lead bullets which have oxidized in the ground are a three ring Federal issue .58 for the Springfield rifle and a fired Confederate issue .57 Enfield round. The picture was reproduced from a photograph taken by Timothy O'Sullivan in 1863 just after the Battle of Gettysburg. It shows the rock walls the Federal troops made to defend Little Round Top. The sticks that are seen were used to spread the soldiers oilcloths over and protect them from the sun while waiting to see what General Lee would do. There is at bottom left a cartridge box left behind on the ground. At the Battle of Gettysburg in Pennsylvania, Major General George Meade's “Army of the Potomac” defeated attacks by General Robert E. Lee's “Army of Northern Virginia”, halting Lee's invasion of the North and forcing his retreat. The battle involved the largest number of casualties of the entire war and is often described as the war's turning point, due to the Union's decisive victory. The battle was fought July 1st through July 3rd, 1863. The artifacts come with an 8” x 12” riker mount box as shown. We are packing the artifacts separately so they don’t scratch the glass. The black felt behind the artifacts in the picture is over soft cotton batting which allows the relic to settle into it and allows for the different thicknesses. Take the pins out of the side of the case and lift off the lid. You can place the relics however you like. Copies of the paperwork shown will come with the certificate. All of the artifacts are guaranteed to be original as stated. A hand signed and dated “Certificate of Authenticity” will be issued by Collectors Frame with a photograph and description of the items purchased. Please see our "About” for more information on the framing and artifacts.
