Glass Collectors Digest Feb '00: Kokomo-Jenkins, Albany, Atterbury, Stump, Loetz

Description: Glass Collector's Digest February/March 2000, Vol. XIII, No. 5 The February/March 2000 (volume XIII, No. 5) feature articles were: The Kokomo-Jenkins Glass Company, Part 1 by Marg Iwen - During his 65 year career, D.C. Jenkins Jr. worked in several glass factories before the formation of the Kokomo-Jenkins Glass Company which made both Depression glass and early American Pattern Glass. Marg Iwen traces the company origins and provides seven photos. (Part 2 is in the next issue.) Wearable Glass Art Beads by Roserita Ziegler - Roserita Ziegler makes a fine argument for glass bead art to receive recognition as a unique studio glass art form. Artists such as Dan Dailey, Kosta Boda and Lino Tagliapetra are mentioned. Additionally there is an interview with Kathy Perras of Itzart Glass. Five Color Plates illustrate the unique properties of this art form. Loetz Glass: A Trip Through the Forest, Part 2 by Alfredo Villanueva-Collado - The author shares items from his extensive collection of Loetz Glass (included are 16 color plates depicting these pieces) and his vast knowledge. The first part was published in the previous issue. Albany Glass - The Search Goes On by Ron Teal - Ron Teal Sr., author of Albany Glass: Model Flint Glass Company of Albany, Indiana, discusses some of the mysteries of the Albany Glass story. He is skeptical of some of the historical information accepted as factual and raises intriguing questions. Twelve color plates and one illustration included. Find Title - American Purple Slag Glass may be difficult for collectors to identify. McCulleys overview with twelve color plates and six B&W photos is a good place to become familiar with the basics. The three largest companies, Atterbury & Co., Challinor, Taylor & Co., and the Northwood Glass Co. are represented. Loren Stump: An American Original by Nancy Alfano - Loren Stump s varied talents as a glass artist are explored here. The seven color plates display the scope of his work and ability with multiple techniques such as Murrine. Though several paperweights are depicted, Stump also does large pieces. Glass: The Many Ways It's Decorated, Part 2 by Helen and Robert Jones - This section continue the discussion on hot metal decoration. The focus is on colored glass. 19 accompanying color plates and two B&W photos provide examples of the decorations achieved through the techniques discussed. Some of these are Cranberry, Marble, Amberina, and Opalescent. Find Title - How to identify a rose bowl and the complexities included are the focus of Johanna Billings piece. Billings shows how subtle differences provide clues about which company produced a piece. Thirteen color plates and four B&W photos support the need to train oneself in examining telling details.
