Description: The musical GODSPELL by Stephen Schwartz (WICKED) and John-Michael Tebelak premiered off-Broadway in 1971. The original artwork for the show was done by graphic artist David Edward Byrd - who had previously designed poster art for such rock stars as Jimi Hendrix, Iron Butterfly, Jefferson Airplane, the Grateful Dead and many more. He designed David Bowie's ZIGGY STARDUST poster for his 1972 Carnegie Hall concert. (Little known fact - he designed the original WOODSTOCK poster, but the site was moved while he was out of the country so his original design was never used.) It is clear his ability to channel rock stars influenced his creation of the GODSPELL image. It's a classic! His Broadway posters include FOLLIES, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, THE ROBBER BRIDEGROOM, and LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS. This blank poster was purchased from Triton Gallery in NYC in the early 1980's. The back of the poster was reinforced with tape. (pictured)
