Description: TWO EDO PERIOD FUCHI - FORGED IRON w COPPER & SILVER SHAKUDO The early calligraphic signed fuchi is decorated with a stylized mountainous landscape. Both are products of master Japanese katana artisans. Fuchi is the metal bordering piece between the swords tsuba (guard) and tsuka (handle). The fuchi finishes the starting point of the handle wrap, capping the end of the wooden tsuka. Fuchi can be a very simple metal band. However, in high-end sensai grade katana, the fuchi is a work of art by master artisans. Decorative elements of the fuchi typically compliment the kashira (cap) on the other end of the guard. NOTE: Final two photographs depict the offered iron fuchi, along with three bronze shakudo fuchi, also available through Select and Superior.
