Description: This is a nifty, stampless, transatlantic, business(importers of cognac, etc.!) cover(in fine-very fine condition, w/complete letter in French; outside of some staining around its edges, quite clean, but with the usual folds, but almost no tears!) sent from Habana, Spanish West Indies, to Messr. Gautier Freres, Aigre, Charente, France around September 27, 1865! Handled for an unknown amount by a NYC forwarding agency, A.C. Rossire, it arrived in New York City on what looks like October 4, and was then put on a steamer for 3-Cents to be taken on to France, where an amount of 8, French centimes were due upon arrival. The mail arrived in Calais on October 17, 1865, when it received the nice, red CDS from the French mail service. The mail was sent on to Paris(a nice CDS!), arriving the same day. It was then put on a train for Bordeaux, before arriving in Aigre on the 18th! Noted imperfections aside, this is one neat piece of stampless, transatlantic mail sent between Kuba and France in 1865!
