Description: ~ HAND-DYED {AGED} VELVETEEN ~ “E V E R G R E E N” ( A rich, deep Pine-Green Shade ) (Sold by the Piece = Fat 1/8 yard Total, Approx. 11” x 17”) *Whether used for “appliqué work” -or- cutting by hand and “hooking into a rug” for some added texture, I think you’ll really enjoy experimenting with Velveteen & its many uses & possibilities! I love using hand-dyed Velveteen for backing my hooked rugs that I’ve made into pillows or purses…even for my Punch Needle Embroidery backings too! I started dyeing Velveteen for the many make-do’s & pincushions I began designing years ago & Velveteen just complements so nicely with wool fabrics….I love to “combine the two together” wherever I can! Velveteen is not as “lofty or as shiny” as the Silk/Rayon Velvets…but I feel, much more pliable & easier to work with for hand or machine appliqué & sewing into pincushions, pillows & other 3-dimensional pieces of art!* You're purchasing 100% {hand-dyed & nicely mottled} Cotton Velveteen that has been "over-dyed" over a solid natural “matt finish” base to give a nice AGED look. Unlike the shiny Silk/Rayon Velvets -- Cotton Velveteen has a nice, primitive & warm, matte finish that works wonderfully in projects where you’d like to combine both {hand-dyed wool and velvets} together! Dyeing Cotton Velveteen is a tad more challenging than dyeing wool and there will be some “uneven areas of dye saturation” and/or some (red flecks of dye) that didn’t dissolve entirely. I think these “slight imperfections” only enhance the primitive nature of these {hand-dyed velveteen} fabrics & adds a touch of unexpected color in your work. Unlike wool, which you (do not) need to turn under the raw edges, Cotton Velveteen does fray along the edge & will need to be sewn under if used for appliqué work. For Make-Do’s, Pincushions or Pinkeeps, I often iron-on Heat ‘N Bond {Feather Weight} one-sided fusible interfacing if using my Sand/Sawdust weighted filler to help keep any of the sand from leeching through. If using just Sawdust or a Cotton or Polyfill stuffing, there is no need to line this fabric at all. If you need to iron out any creases in your Velveteen, be sure to iron from the {back side} & use a pressing cloth with your iron set on the {cotton heat setting}. The Cotton Velveteen is measured PRIOR to washing, giving you a full Fat 1/8 yard or Fat 1/4 yard or Fat 1/2 yard to work with. A Fat 1/8 yard (after shrinkage) measures approx. 11" W x 17” L; a Fat 1/4 yard (after shrinkage) measures approx. 17” W x 22” L; and a full 1/2 yard (after shrinkage) measures approx. 17” W x 44” L. The velveteen is readied for over-dyeing using a long 1/2 yard measurement & has already been “appropriately sized & cut for my dye pots” so I’m unable to give you any other sizes than these dimensions stated. *Note: if you need a full Fat 1/4 yd. & it states there are 2 or more pieces available; click on quantity (2) Fat 1/8 yards and I will NOT cut these into separate pieces but rather keep them intact as a full Fat 1/4 yard piece. Same goes if you need a full Fat 1/2 yard piece & it states I have 4 pieces available; click on quantity (4) Fat 1/8 yards and I will NOT cut these into separate pieces either but rather keep them intact as a full Fat 1/2 yard piece. I do my best to post photographs that realistically represent the colors in my hand-dyed wools & velveteen fabric. Please understand that computer monitors vary and the color representation {you personally see} may differ slightly from the original as everyone sees color differently. If you have difficulty seeing a particular color, BE SURE to adjust your computer screen/monitor for “brightness” which can improve you seeing the colors & the subtle over & undertones of each color & its variations. In most cases, the colors in your wool or velveteen fabrics will be much more pleasing in person than what you see in the photo. I guarantee 100% satisfaction. My Cotton Velveteen comes from a smoke free home! Be sure to check out my eBay STORE to see what else I have in stock! I continue to add new inventory ongoing, so do check in often.
