The star is also called Froebel Star in honor of Friedrich Frobel, a German educator who promoted paper arts as a mode of teaching children. My paternal grandmother, Alice, taught me how to make them when I was a child. I couldn't do it at first, but I kept practicing, and at one point could make them with my eyes closed!
