The back of the document indicates that it was received and recorded at the county deed office. The bottom portion of this document is missing. This document is more than just a piece of history related to one of the oldest industries in Holyoke, it also is a document of family history. At the time this document was signed, and this money exchanged hands, James H Newton was the owner of Hampden paper company and a successful businessman in his own right. His father-in-law Calvin Taft owned Franklin paper company. In later years did two companies with merge.
