He was a representative of impressionism in printmaking. He studied at the Karlsruhe Art Academy with Wilhelm Trübner and Walter Conz. In 1908 he settled in Berlin as a freelance artist. In 1919 Meid became a teacher of etching at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin. From 1910 onwards he created an extensive graphic work and a large number of illustrations for works of world literature. Meid's house in Berlin-Steglitz was destroyed during the war in 1943. In 1948 he accepted a position at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, where he taught until 1951.
