Artist/designer Kenneth Niimi's sculpture, depicting an emancipated worker is pictured on the medallion face. The Nimi original is on display in the Hawthorne Studies Room at Western Electric Company's Hawthorne Works, Cicero, Illinois. The inscription on the reverse side is drawn from the preface to "Management and the Worker," a textbook account of the historic experiment and co-authored by Fritz Rothlisberger and Bill Dickson. The words are those of Dr. Elton Mayo of Harvard, a member of the University-Western Electric team which helped guide the original Hawthorne Studies.
