Helen Corey's Food from Biblical Lands: A Culinary Trip to the Land of Bible-NEW

Description: Cookbook: Helen Corey's Food From Biblical Lands: A Culinary Trip To The Land Of Bible History by Helen Corey (Author)Paperback – (2019) Take a culinary trip through time to the sun-soaked deserts and sparkling coastal waters where our spiritual ancestors invented the very first recipes and cooking techniques. A time when the air, thick with the scent of freshly-squeezed lemon, wafted lazily through the olive groves, mingling with the rich, smoky flavor of a tender lamb meat sizzling over a charcoal pit. Let your senses transport you back to the cradle of civilization when food was a sacred nourishment for body and soul. In this remarkable cookbook, celebrated chef Helen Corey presents authentic, mouth-watering recipes for a range of traditional foods from Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Egypt, Morocco, Jordan and Iraq. With measurements converted for convenient use in American kitchens and friendly explanations of unfamiliar foods and terms, Food from Biblical Lands is perfectly accessible for those with little or no experience in Middle Eastern cooking. You and your family will be delighted by the succulent taste of chicken smothered in zesty sumac and the refreshing tang of stuffed summer squash in a tantalizing mint-yogurt sauce. And the long list of appetizers, snacks, and desserts will keep you busy with new dishes for months... Not to mention Helen's useful menu suggestions for special occasions and holidays. Best of all, Middle Eastern food is remarkably healthy; dishes like Tabouli salad and Leban (Yogurt) are delicious low-calorie, protein-filled foods, and others, like Falafel and Tahini, have long been favorites among healthy eaters. Because traditional Middle Eastern recipes call for ingredients that co-exist closely in nature, the foods are naturally balanced and healthy, just as God intended. With intriguing, food-related excerpts from the Old and New Testaments scattered between the recipes, Food from Biblical Lands is an engaging and delicious investigation into the relationship between history, spirituality, and food. The best cookbook for authentic Middle-Eastern home-cooking recipes! Oh, how my Mother and Father would have loved them. The cookbook, Food from Biblical Lands, and video, The Art of Syrian & Lebanese Cooking, brings back many loving memories of my Mother cooking Syrian foods. We were blessed with her until she was 91 years old, and she did most of the Syrian cooking while she was alive. I have tried to remember her different recipes, and with Helen's cookbook and video it helps bring it to life. It is as though Mother has returned to remind me what to put into each recipe. It is a precious bit of the past, here in the present. Thank you Helen for this wonderful gift. Keep up the good work. 5.0 out of 5 stars Perfectly authentic and well writtenBy Amanda Howell on January 30, 2001Format: PaperbackEach recipe is explained in detail and if an ingredient is uncommon she explains where to get it and what it is. She writes the recipes so that the end result turns out wonderfully. I grew up eating this food in Canton, OH and her recipes taste just the way the old Syrians would have prepared it. I was so happy to find a cookbook so true to the old world style. There are meat recipes as well as vegetable based cuisine, desserts, and even how to make the old Syrian cheese usually served with breakfast. It is a concise, great book and I wish more people knew how to prepare meals like this. 5.0 out of 5 stars Classic in Middle Eastern CookingBy A Customer on September 16, 1999Format: Paperback"Helen Corey's cookbook Food from Biblical Lands and The Art of Syrian and Lebanese Video Cooking shows are classics. MCPfood, Professor of Nutrition, Sept. 9, 1999" 5.0 out of 5 stars No better book published!By A Customer on June 3, 1999Format: PaperbackI do not need a 1,000 words to describe this book. I am Syrian, and it is by far the best and most authentic book ever written on the subject of Syrian food. I suggest you get in touch with Helen Corey or her family in Worcester, Massachusetts (St. George's Orthodox Cathedral can help you locate her- they are on Anna Street) to tell her about your site and how she can benefit from publishing her book again. I am sure she has no idea of the potential, let alone understanding computers. Her book is an important historical record that should be preserved. 5.0 out of 5 stars This book has more recipes than the one I lost and I am very happy to have found not only oneBy myself on May 26, 2016Format: Paperback Verified PurchaseI owned the hardcover edition of Helen Corey's recipe book 40 years ago.
