Description: Outstanding signed real photograph postcard of actress Edna Porter. Who no one today has ever heard of...... She lived from about 1883 until 1946. A very liberal activist for much of her life she knew EVERYONE in the literary world of NYC from about the time of this photo, c1910, until her death. Her greatest claim to fame is probably her lengthy friendship, editing, I believe caregiving some too, of Helen Keller, as well as Anne Sullivan. Edna really did a tremendous amount of work for Keller and her papers. Also, later, she was babysitter/caregiver to Phillipa Schuyler who is plenty well known in her own right. I say babysitter but one such time was 18 days so its clearly more complicated than that. Porter once was involved with sneaking (aka B&E) of a building to retrieve some papers with Walt Whitman in 1919. She had a long and really interesting life. Probably long overdue for a proper biography to be written really. Will scan the back asap. It is blank with a NOKO stampbox. Photo was taken by White in NY. Unused and really in excellent condition.
