Description: "Histoire Naturelle, Generale et Particuliere, avec la Description du Cabinet du Roy, Tome Premier" is a 612 page, 7.75"x10.25" leather-bound hardcover written by the Comte de Buffon and published in 1970 (this is the second edition) in Paris by l'Imprimerie Royale.All text is in French. This is the first of 36 volumes published between 1749 and 1789 (another 8 appeared posthumously). It's an encyclopedia of natural history. There are two full-page illustrations and two fold-out maps. In acceptable condition. The leather boards show heavy wear. The spine is in suspiciously better condition - perhaps it's been repaired. There are bookplates on the front and back pastedowns, small marks several pages at the front and back, a moisture stain visible at the bottom of pages near the back, light foxing throughout (heavier towards the back). Several pages have bent corners. The first map has an inch-long tear along a fold at the bottom.
