Description: "The Historical Wythe County Courthouse" was torn down in circa 1909-12 on main street in Wytheville Va. to make way for a new building to be built on 4th Street. The old court house was a meeting place for many who did business in the the town. I captured this time of life as a Sunday Evening, not much moving around, the ladies and gents dressed in their finest out for a Sunday evening ride, the horses drinking their fill from the fountain that was used by many. The fountain is still erected at a museum not far from the corner of Tazewell and Main Street. There were signs of events like races that would take place at the race track, with purses up to $2.000. 00. A large sign painted on the side of a building that still stands was common. The weathervane atop of the courthouse was used as a statement of determination. It was said if you had a problem with a neighbor and it could not be settled, you would say " I will see you under the fish" The Judge Bolling the father of Edith Bolling Wilson fame served as a judge in this building and lived just up the street to the right. So much to say but it is a good piece. Lots of history. The print measures 22X17 and the image is 20X15. Printed with Epson Professional Printers and Epson Paper. Thanks for viewing this site, Ken
