ZUIKAKU (Japanese: 瑞鶴 "Auspicious Crane") was a SHOKAKU-class aircraft carrier and was one of six carriers to participate in the Pearl Harbor attack. She fought in several of the most important naval battles of the war before being sunk during the Battle of Leyte Gulf. If you are a fan of the well-regarded Gakken Series, you know that the more current ones (approximately Volume 50 and afterwards) are relatively easy to find but the older ones, such as this one, do not appear frequently on eBay. This 190 page, 7 x 10 inch softcover with dustjacket offers the typical Gakken Series format: nice, large-format period photographs; a multi-page foldout of the ZUIKAKU; some exceptional color photographs of an incredible 1/100 scale model; and useful ine drawings as well as detail drawings. Text is in Japanese but the level of pictorial detail is incredible -- this book is perfect for the advanced IJN modeler. Condition of this vintage (1997) publication is LIKE NEW -- it looks like it just came off the Tokyo bookstore shelf. A very well-done publication and absolutely perfect for anyone with interest in the ZUIKAKU, especially if you are considering building a kit.
