The Tragedy of Loosdorf Castle:The Destruction and Rebirth of Exported Old Imari INTRODUCTION:This catalog was published on the occasion of the exhibition "The Tragedy of Loosdorf Castle: The Destruction and Rebirth of Exported Old Imari" held held in 2020 at Okura Museum of Art, Aichi Prefectural Ceramic Museum and Yamaguchi Prefectural Hagi Uragami Museum. At the Loosdorf Castle near Vienna, a huge number of ceramic shards of old Imari ceramics, which were destroyed when the castle was occupied during World War II, are laid out in a room and exhibited to the public. These ceramic shards were collected by the castle's owner and are believed to have once decorated the interior of the castle before it was destroyed. This exhibition displayed the Japanese, Chinese, and Western ceramic collections of Loosdorf Castle, including these shards, along with masterpieces of Arita porcelain from Japan. The exhibition included approximately 160 works, including about 25 works from Loosdorf Castle that had been restored using Japanese techniques. The following content is with English translation.- Preface - Chapter Commentary- "Serena Piatti's" "History of Origin - List of Works Comments from usWe were horrified by the sight of the destruction of so many beautiful Imari pieces. The sheer number of shards tells us that war means killing the culture of the invaded country. On the other hand, the Imari collection at Loosdorf Castle astounded us, as even the shards were beautiful. The cover design is beautiful. A black dust jacket hangs over a white body with photographs of Imari shards arranged on it. -------------------------------The content is written in Japanese, with some content translated into English.Softcover with dust jacket, approx 200 pages Size: approx 182mm X 255mm X 23mm (7.2 inches X 10.0 inches X 0.9 inches ) Weight: approx 640g SHIPPING:This item is in stock in our store.
