Description: Ivan's Childhood (1962) B&W Director Andrei Tarkovsky. Criterion Collection edition, 2007. Booklet included. This film by Tarkovsky depicts the story of Ivan, a 12-year old orphan who works as a spy on the eastern front during World War II. The small Ivan can cross the German lines unnoticed to collect information. The strength and immersion of the film are quite amazing. Although it was made more than sixty years ago, it has lost none of its power and is still absolutely gripping. The dream sequences are especially powerful in the way they show the history and state of mind of the young Ivan. The acting, editing and cinematography are all very good. Overall the film is an example of directorial excellence. From a very simple story, Tarkovsky is able to build a larger history with obvious references to Christianity and questions about the nature of humankind are at the centre of this film. This is one of the best war films that exist. (IMDB) In very good pre-owned condition. SOLD AS IS. From a non-smoking, kid-free, pet-friendly home.
