Fine quality Studio Pottery From the internet " JR "Ron" Cooper is a currently active potter and face jug artist at Cooper Pottery in Orange (roughly Canton), Cherokee County, Georgia. Featured alongside E.L. Stork, Earl Stork, J.P. Reid, Belle Reid, Homer Burns and Jay Benzel in Jim McFarland's "The Potters of Orange: 100 Years of Pottery-Making in East-Central Cherokee County, Georgia 1913-2013". Ron and his kin are from the Cartersville area.Ron has been working in clay since at least 1960 (when he would have been a freshman in high school), professionally with his wife Mae since ~1978-1979 and started setting up his current studio in 1983. Some of his work can be recognized by his signature harvest brown glaze.Ron began his apprenticeship with W.J. Gordy, son of W.T.B. Gordy in 1959. W.T.B. Gordy was partner to E.L. Stork between 1911 and 1913, so if you know someone who collects Stork or Gordy pottery, and want to give a good gift but don't have the deep pockets for those pieces, Cooper pottery makes a great gift. He also made at least one face jug with D.X. Gordy.Ron's grandson Chandler, has spent some time helping in the shop and has also made at least one five face face jug while still in school at Shorter University in Rome, Georgia."
