Description: This piece measures 2 inches high and 2.25 inches long. It depicts a lovely sitting rabbit that was made out of solid cast iron and though it is made from a cold metal, you can almost imagine the texture and warmth of the soft fluffy fur of the rabbit.From the marking on the piece, it was designed and manufactured by Iwachu of Morioka in Iwate Prefecture of Japan. In the early Edo period (1603–1868), the 28th Lord Nanbu Toshinao, who had a profound knowledge of tea culture, started producing quality iron teapots with craftspeople from Kyoto. He realized that his region contained the raw materials necessary for developing an iron-making industry and made the foundation of Morioka Tekki (Ironware) industry of today and Iwachu is one of the best known manufacturers of Nanbu.This is a brand new piece and the condition is very good.
