Description: 5 ORIGINAL pages from Harper's Weekly Newspaper , 1865 , all measure about 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 , all refer to Jefferson C. Davis , former President of the Southern States--------------------first page is dated August 19 , 1865 , showing President Davis leaving his friends to escape the Union soldiers. There are some small tears at bottom. The second is dated May 27, 1865 , the left column describes the capture of President Davis in great detail. The picture shows Lewis Payne who attempted to assassinate Secretary Seward , the column to the right describes some of his activities. The edges have many tears , see pictures. The third page is dated June 17, 1865 , shows President Davis at the top in disguise trying to evade his Union soldiers. The text to the right describes his capture. The bottom shows some of the officers of the Union Army who engaged in his capture. Bottom edge has small tears. The fourth page is dated )ctober 18, 1862 and shows General Jefferson C. Davis assassinating General Nelson. Some edge tears. The last page is dated June 7 , 1862 , and has picture of Jeff Davis's former coachman , William A.Jackson . Obviously , picture is after he earned his freedom. He appears to be an intelligent man and has signed under his picture " Yours Sincerely Wm. A. Jackson ".
