Hunter acknowledging he has received his earlier correspondence: “I have the pleasure to acknowledge the receipt of your’s of the 18th Inst. and to remain very truly yrs.” Hunter served as Davis’ assistant while he was in Congress and Secretary of War and in the 2nd Regiment, Virginia Cavalry during the Civil War, seeing action at the Battles of First Manassas, Sharpsburg, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, Siege of Petersburg, and Appomattox Court House. Contains one page on a bifolium, measures 7 by 4.5 inches, created in Washington, DC, and in very fine condition with one small area of foxing, very light soiling, and evidence of mounting on the verso.
