Agreement between Standard Oil Company of Ohio and Standard Oil Company of Indiana, transferring a parcel of land in Michigan from the former to the latter for $120.00. Signed by Rockefeller on page 2 as President of Standard of Ohio, notarized at bottom, below two 25-cent tax stamps. The patriarch of the Rockefeller family was born on July 8, 1839. He lived until 1937 at the age of 97. He organized Standard Oil Co. in 1870 and became its President. Soon, he had monopolized the oil business. Both Standard Oil trust (organized in 1881) and Standard Oil Co. of New Jersey (organized in 1899) were dissolved by court orders. He remained dominant in the oil business until his retirement in 1911. An aggressive entrepreneur whose fortune peaked at $900 million in 1912, Rockefeller was also a legendary philanthropist who established the Rockefeller Foundation and funded many other charitable causes.
