My phone phreak buddies and I considered him to be a legend. The book is spot-on in terms of his jumping on your back, which to us he called Tai Chi (uh-huh) and his total aversion to cigarette smoke. A trip to the Kings Plaza mall where we switched tables about half a dozen times during a single meal and asked several people to please extinguish their smokes is still etched in my memory. He had an early Apple II, barely in the case and generating the most perfect MF tones I had ever heard outside of Ma Bell herself. If you have any interest in John’s exploits, read this book. Having seen some of this first-hand, I can tell you without reservation that this book is the real deal! Kaimukiguy: “Pioneer Hacking Legacy - An amazing story” As a teenager in the 70’s, John was a hero to us wannabe hackers. I was an avid “phone phreak” and have great memories of calling all over the world for free. This book is an amazing account of what early hacking was all about. It definitely should be a movie. KindleCustomer: “Great read” Loved this book. I bought the book as I grew up with John both in England and California. Lots of memories brought back to me of John, his family and his little blue box. It’s a great read. MP: “Entertaining” A pretty entertaining, decently written read for anyone in the computer/hacking field.
