Description: Dunning, John - Booked to Die - Charles Scribner’s Sons: New York, 1992 - First Edition / First Printing - Complete number line, starting with “1”, present on the copyright page as required in order to denote the first printing of the first edition. “…She still doesn't understand the first edition game: Hemingway, she says, reads just as well in a two-bit paperback as he does in a $500 first printing. I can still hear myself lecturing her the first time she said that. Only a fool would read a first edition. Simply having such a book makes life in general and Hemingway in particular go better when you do break out the reading copies. I listened to myself and thought, This woman must think I'm a government-inspected horse's ass. Then I showed her my Faulkners, one with a signature, and I saw her shiver with an almost sexual pleasure as she touched the paper where he signed. Faulkner was her most recent god…” The book has some trivial edge wear but is otherwise superb. The boards are straight, the lettering on the spine is bright, binding is square and firm and internally there are no markings or writing. Additionally this copy has NOT been remaindered as is so often the case. The dust jacket has one micro tear and some minor shelf wear but presents nearly as new. All together a superb example of a notoriously difficult book. The few copies which weren’t sent to libraries were remaindered making it shockingly tough to find a great copy of a title with such a recent vintage. This example has been signed, inscribed and dated in the year, and month, of publication on the half title page. Additionally, the inscription is rather warm. A superb copy of the first title in the Cliff Janeway “Bookman” series of biblio-mysteries. All books are offered with a full 30 day postage paid return policy. All books which are in dust jackets will be mailed with a clear archival dust jacket protector fitted. Shipping costs can be combined if multiple purchases are made. Items will be packaged and shipped within one business day unless otherwise noted. Please always feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.
