Here we have a wonderful John Rogers Group entitled “The First Ride”. Rogers sculpted this piece in 1888. The sculpture is properly signed JOHN ROGERS / NEW YORK The statue depicts a fancy “citified” lady who has taken her son to the country for his first ride on a horse. Everyone seems delighted in how this endeavor is going! A charming piece with a charming story. The group is in wonderful condition. As to be expected with a piece this old, there are a few minor chips and a little paint flaking, but the statue retains its original paint which, considering its age, is still in great shape. The sculpture will be well packed and will arrive in the same condition it is now. But, packing a piece this large correctly takes some doing and adds to the weight.
