Description: JOSE MANUEL FORS. Photographer. Conceptual artist. Installation artist. Contemporary Art Cuba. 1956. Title: "The Courtyard" Technique: Silver/Gelatin. Photography Dimensions: (26 ½ x 22 inches). 33 x 28 ½ inches Executed: 1985 Signed: J.M. Fors Provenance: Private collection, Havana, acquired from the original owner by the current owner. Jose Manuel Fors is an artist who has a great attraction for objects and how these can be used to tell stories and evoke memories. He often recalls refined collectors of the chambre de merveilles and the cabinet of curiosities, and his attitude towards objects is like an "affective archaeology". He began his career in the 1970s as a member of the Volumen Uno group, and since then has developed a conceptual and minimalist approach that allows him to create unique pieces that combine sculpture and installation. The careful arrangement of selected objects is the central focus of his work and allows him to explore themes such as nature and time in an intimate and reflective way. Perhaps this concern for the object and its space, his constant investigation, lead him to photography and from these to the composition of installations of strong conceptual and poetic charge.JOSE MANUEL FORS.
