Description: Joseph Frederick Sutter (1921-2016) was a Boeing engineer who managed the design team for the Boeing 747. He has been labeled "the father of the 747." Founded in 1942 and based in NYC, the Wings Club is a social and professional club established for aviators. It bills itself as "the premier global society of aviation professionals." The Society holds monthly meetings, annual dinners, and special occasions at which talks are given on various aspects of aviation. It also gives out scholarships to aviation students and recognizes individuals and organizations with a "Distinguished Achievement Award." An annual lecture (the General Harold R. Harris Sight Lecture) was implemented in 1964 at which a leading aviation notable delivers a lecture focusing on "insights and hindsights" of aviation, Each lecture is published in book form by the Wings Club.
