Description: Original Oil on wood Landscape , View house village Signed: Weil Size: 33x41 cm or 12.9x16.1 inch Frame: 44x51.5 cm or 17.3x20 inch Fernand Weil (1894-1958) Fernand Weil was born in Paris on August 4, 1894 and died on October 18, 1958. Nothing foretold in his youth that he would one day be a painter. His youth was that of all the men of his generation. He fought in the 1914 war and was wounded in the hip in 1916. After the war he resumed his profession as a wine broker. During the German occupation, in 1944, Fernand Weil being in Paris, hidden under another identity, could no longer leave his new home, being wanted by the Gestapo. This inaction weighed on him and it was there that he began to paint. Having made no study, neither in drawing nor in painting, he began to reproduce postcards, until the day when he began to paint from imagination, landscapes which he had seen and which he began to reproduce in his own way. On the advice of an expert in painting André Scholler he had his first exhibition at the Galerie du Verseau in 1945. At this exhibition several important collectors bought paintings. The art critics of the time (Jean Bouret, Jean Chabanon, Georges Turpin, Paul Vincent, Frank Elga, Léon Degant, F. Delanglade, Jean Mornac, Maximilien Gauthier, Michel Florisoons) are unanimous in singing the praises of the artist. Art critic and poet Anatole Jakovski pays tribute to the artist in the book he dedicated to Fernand Weil.
