Description: Large Antique Pewter Chamberstick Lamp, Applied Handle, NEWELLS Burner Dish Base, c. 1840. This auction is for a large pewter chamberstick whale oil lamp. This chamberstick has a wide dish base with an applied shaped handle off the base that joins the font. The font is very large with a cylindrical shape that extends all the way to the handle, that joins the base. This is unmarked but I believe that it is American from the middle of the 19th century. This has a two tube camphene burner, that is marked, "J. NEWELLS - PATENT OCT. 4, 1853". This lid is probably not original to this lamp as the burner threads are too small to screw into the base, so someone has added black electrical tape to make it fit right. Also the font doesn't have the sreening inside that is normally a part of the NEWELLS burner. I offer this Antique pewter chamberstick with no reserve and a Buy It Now. DIMENSIONS: The lamp is 6 3/16" H. (top of font) x 2 3/16" Dia. at the font and 4 15/16" Dia, at the base. CONDITION: The condition is good with some denting and surface wear. The threading on the burner is too small to screw into the base, so someone has added a piece of black electrical tape to make it fit tight. SHIPPING: Buyer pays actual shipping costs based upon the 2 pounds and 12 ounces weight and postal zone. Please use the shipping calculator within this listing to calculate postage within the continental United States. This includes professional packing with USPS delivery.
