Description: Up for sale is a large antique map Plate of the Nicaragua Route from Cano Guachipilin to the Pacific Ocean, showing Lines of Canal, Service Railroad, and Borings, Plate 47, Map #3, Sheet 13. Large view of Nicaragua Route. Authorities are Surveys of the Isthmian Canal Commission from 1899-1901, and Surveys of the Nicaragua Canal Commission from 1897-1899. It measures approximately 35 x 16. It is blank on the back. The Plate comes from The Report of the Isthmian Canal Commission, 1897-1901. This report was commissioned to develop the best route and plan for the construction of the Panama Canal. The Plate is a rare example of the publication of this work. The report was published by the Government Printing Office circa 1903. Overall the Plate is in good condition. Some light browning and staining around the edges. One small tear and stain on the right edge, but does not affect the print. A hole/tear in the top edge on the left side. A tear horizontally and vertically caused by the creasing on the left side of the map. Some holes tracing down that crease. One small hole on the middle bottom edge, but does not affect the print. Some small dark specks around the map. One small hole in the middle from the crease of the map. Several creases and browning down the middle where it was originally folded when bound. Some small nicks and tears around the edges. Will look very nice framed. Note also that while I have included a picture of the List of Plates from the original book it is not included in the sale as it is a reference piece to determine authenticity for several other plates. I would be happy to include a copy if requested. Please see my store for other great items. Inventory E-31
