Description: This listing is ONLY for a BLANK SG-µMD1 PCB, PIC32 chip programmed with the latest uMD1 firmware, 2pcs UA9637, and a link to a DigiKey Cart with most of the other required parts. The blank SG-µMD1 PCB may also be purchased by itself at slightly lower cost. µMD1 is a low cost readout for interferometers using two-frequency Zeeman lasers or similar applications of heterodyne interferometry. For a system for homodyne interferometers using single frequency lasers as well as linear and rotary encoders and other devices producing Quad-A-B signals, see µMD2 in listing: 303822779498. µMD2 now also supports heterodyne interferometers. There is no interpolation at present so the highest resolution is only 80 nm with a Plane Mirror Interferometer. But interpolation is hopefully coming soon, and it will be a free firmware upgrade. However, if you really want µMD1, here is how this listing will work:Purchase this listing using Buy it Now. There are no options. Use the link to the DigiKey Cart I will provide to purchase the required parts directly from DigiKey for a up to a 3-axis system. Adjust the quantities in the Cart as desired. If the Cart has a PIC32, that can be deleted unless you would like a spare. But the PIC32 chip from Digikey is NOT programmed and does not even have the bootloader installed. If you don't have a DigiKey account, that's free and they accept all common payment methods including PayPal. I will send you a BLANK SG-µMD1 PCB, a PIC32 chip programmed with the latest uMD1 firmware, and 2pcs of the DIP UA9637 dual RS422 receiver. Now the description, finally. ;-) µMD1 is based is based on a Microchip PIC32 microprocessor and provides most of the functions of an HP-5508A and more. The firmware requires a PC with USB port running Windows XP or later and .net 4.0 or later for the custom µMD1 application. The PC is NOT included but most systems (desktops, laptops, or netbooks) more recent than the Jurassic period should be satisfactory. :) So dust off that old computer and put it to good use! Sorry, µMD1 does not run on a phone - yet! The Graphical User Interface (GUI) provides real-time displacement and velocity measurements using common interferometer optics on up to three independent axes, as well as optional frequency analysis of the displacement data. µMD1 also supports straightness and angle measurements with appropriate optics and allows for their parameters to be entered if non-standard. See the photos for examples of the typical display. Other features include continuous monitoring of REF, MEAS, and DIFF frequencies; logging so that data can be exported to a data analysis application like Matlab or Excel; and Test Mode which has it's own function generator for simulated data which can be displayed and processed just like real data for verifying behavior or just checking out operation. And for custom applications, the GUI can be bypassed entirely with data from the SG-µMD1 board input directly to your software. There is much more information in the official "µMD1 Installation and Operation Manual". Google will find it. eBay doesn't like direct links in listings The SG-µMD1 board runs from USB 5 VDC. With a Plane Mirror Interferometer, the basic resolution using µMD1 with a typical two-frequency laser is under 35 nm for displacement with easily detectable changes of 1 or 2 nm. For reference, 1 nm is about the width of 8 hydrogen atoms sitting side-by-side. For µMD2, it 80 nm for a heterodyne interferometer and 40 nm for a homodyne interferometer, but smaller changes will not be easily detectable, sorry. The main photo shows the PCB and PIC32 chip. The last photo is the assembled PCB for a 3-axis system. Screen shots of the GUI for Displacement and Frequency using Test Mode data are shown along with a display of actual data using a 5517A laser and Plane Mirror Interferometer with custom-built low noise actuator using a mirror on a PZT driven from a Wavetek function generator with a peak-peak displacement of around 10 nm (However, your mileage may vary and the usable resolution is not quite as fine for higher REF lasers but still close.) IMPORTANT: The laser, interferometer optics, and optical receiver (if needed) are NOT included!!!! µMD1 will work with all common HP/Agilent/Keysight lasers including the 5501A/B, 5517A/B/C/D, 5518A, and 5519A/B, as well as clones like the Excel 1001A/B/F, and other commercial as well as home-built lasers such as those constructed using parts in my listing for the Zeeman Laser Kit. Interferometer optics are readily available on eBay, or can be constructed from basic optical components - polarizing beam-splitters, waveplates, and retro-reflectors.. Any HP/Agilent 10780 or similar optical receiver can be used or one can be built using a photodiode and a hand-full of additional inexpensive parts. (However, using one like the 10780 really is much easier.) Lifetime (yours or however long you remain interested in this stuff) tech support will be provided via email. ;) Lasers, interferometer optics, optical receivers, cables, and cable parts, as well as "Hobbyist Special" kits with lasers and optics are available. Contact me with specific requirements and/or check out my other listings. IMPORTANT: This is NOT a turnkey system - some assembly is required depending on version. Basic electronics assembly skills like fine soldering and basic testing using a DMM, as well as additional parts including wire or cable, are required. In addition to assembling the PCB, cables will need to be constructed to attach the board to your laser and optical receiver(s). And you can't use your 100 watt Weller soldering gun for this, it requires a fine tip preferably temperature-controlled iron. There is no warranty if you screw up assembly due to poor soldering technique. If you have no experience with fine soldering, order one of the assembled versions and have someone else deal with the terminating resistors and construct the cables. The handling time is listed as 5 days because sometimes people want other items included with SG-µMD1, which I may need to order. eBay seems to be anal about this even if buyers never complain. But normally, shipping is typically same day for just SG-µMD1. For international sales, I recommend using the eBay Global Shipping Program for shipping if your country is supported. It's probably less expensive and then eBay assures that the address is correct. Either way, confirm that you are able to order from Digikey first. To reiterate: This listing is ONLY for a BLANK SG-µMD1 PCB, PIC32 chip programmed with the latest uMD1 firmware, and a link to a DigiKey Cart with most of the other required parts. But lifetime tech support still applies. ;-) Special Option 1 consists of a blank SG-µMD1 PCB, programmed PIC, and most of the required parts purshased when the Digikey Cart was ordered as a test. There is only one of these. Thanks for looking! :-) --- sam
