Description: Leblanc by Backun Symphonie A Clarinet for sale. Purchased brand-new in 2008 and hand selected by DePaul University professors Julie DeRoche and Larry Combs (retired Principal Clarinet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra). I have been the only owner of this instrument. It was purchased in a set with a Leblanc by Backun Symphonie Bb Clarinet, which is also currently listed for sale by me (please send me a message if you are interested in purchasing these as a set). The Symphonie line of clarinets was a professional model which was discontinued in 2010 when Leblanc and Backun ended their partnership. Symphonies were considered one step below the top-of-the-line Legacy clarinets within this series. This instrument is in great playing condition. It was played throughout my time at DePaul University and during my tenure with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. I played this instrument until I switched to a Leblanc by Backun Legacy A Clarinet, which is also currently listed for sale. This clarinet has been serviced at least once per year by master repairman, Scott Winkler of Winkler’s Woodwind Specialities. Even though it has not been played regularly for a few years, I have continued to maintain it and have it serviced once per year. There is some visible wear and tear on the keys and some of the plating is coming off (see photos), however this does not affect the sound. All of the nylon adjustment screws have been replaced with custom screws to allow for repeated adjustment without the screws becoming stripped in any way, all of the pads are top of the line Kraus Omni synthetic and cork pads. Omni pads are some of the very best on the market and are revered by working musicians for their quiet close and long-lasting nature. The bore and keys are in good condition and allow for Leblanc’s trademark evenness of warm tone and stable pitch. In addition, this instrument has never cracked, the tenon corks are in good condition, and there is an adjustable thumb rest included. The clarinet comes with its original Backun barrel as well as the MoBa (Ricardo Morales/Backun collaboration) barrel and bell combo that was hand-selected for this instrument before its sale to me. This clarinet would make an excellent and dependable professional-level clarinet for anyone looking for one, including college students, adult amateurs, or middle or high-school aged students playing in a youth orchestra. An additional note for collectors of interesting instruments: these are no longer being manufactured and you will be hard-pressed to find a similar instrument in as good a condition as this one is.
