Description: This is a Leo Koppy Pintail Drake Decorative Decoy. It is signed by Leo Koppy on the bottom but not dated. It is typical of Leo Koppy Decoys as it is carved robustly from distressed wood and finished with a combination of paints and stains. Each of his decoys was hand carved and with them, he often attached a note saying that, "This decoy was made of distressed wood and carved and finished by hand. No two are identical." (But they were very similar, except this particular decoy. We are guessing it may have been created later in has career as it is much different that many of his Pintails we have owned.) It is near life size being 18.75 inches from beak to tail. It is 5.25 inches wide, 5.75 inches tall, and weighs 2.5 pounds. The Decoy is near perfect condition and we cannot find any flaws or signs of damage. Leo Koppy lived in Huntington Beach, California, and besides his wonderful decoys, he carved wooden characters for Walt Disney. His story has a tragic ending as he was murdered by a jealous neighbor in 1980. We have loved his decoys as have many others. His work influenced carvers like Tom Taber.
