Description: Up for sale is an Antique French Print of a Character from a Play. Circa 1880s-1890s. The print features an Artwork originally done by M. Saud, of the character "Eriphile" from the French play "Les Amants Magnifiques" (The Magnificent Lovers) with the phrase "Quel est celui. dites-moi. que vous souhaiteriez que j'épousais" (What is that. Tell me. That you would like me to marry." The print is in an Antique wooden Borghese frame that is painted black with a gold inner border. The Magnificent Lovers is a comedy-ballet by Molière to music by Jean-Baptiste Lully, composed and performed on the occasion of the carnival of February 1670, during festivities called Royal Entertainment. It was during this performance that Louis XIV took the stage for the last time as a dancer. Behind the fun of a sentimental and romantic plot - two rival princes argue over a young princess who loves a soldier of fortune, without nobility but not without glory, who saves her from a ferocious boar and thus finds himself authorized to marry the one whom he loves - Molière puts astrology on trial, in particular thanks to the character of Anaxarque, a charlatan astrologer. There is some light wear and some yellowing to the print as well as fading to the color. The frame has some wear and discoloration and hairline cracks on the gold inner border and there are light scratches/abrasions throughout the rest of the frame as seen in the photos. The frame has it's original paper with a sticker that reads "BORGHESE". Overall the piece is in decent shape and displays beautifully.
