Description: Leutschauer Pepper Seeds - open-pollinated grown without herbicides and pesticides. These are an open-pollinated, heirloom variety, coming from Slovakia/Hungary in the 1800s. These peppers are grown for making spicy paprika powder. The peppers are about half as spicy as a Jalapeno, the finished paprika powder made from these peppers is a little spicy, around 1/10th as spicy as cayenne powder. The peppers are great for making paprika because the plants produce many peppes and the thinness of the pepper walls makes them ideal to dry. Homemade paprika is a great way to improve your deviled eggs, goulash, chili soup, BBQ, salad dressings, casseroles or anything else you wants more flavor on. Plants are vigorous and grow around 36-40 inches tall and bushy, and benefit from staking or cages. Branches tend to sag when pods form. One plant can produce around 20-25 peppers, 2-3 plants would be needed to make one spice container of powder. The peppers can be eaten fresh, but ideal use is for drying or paprika powder. 80 days to harvest Germination tested: 9-2024, germinates in 10-14 days.
