Description: Repair your original Prius Gen 2 rear hatch garnish trim handle with our custom-designed bracket set. Four unique inserts attach under the four mounting points holding the handle to the rear hatch. Just remove the garnish panel from your car by using one of dozens of YouTube videos. Next, clean out the four recesses under the stud attachment points using an old toothbrush or cotton swabs. Blow out the remaining fine dust and then test fit the dry brackets into their unique positions (The hole in each insert to allow you to thread in an included machine screw for use as a temporary handle.) Next, mix up a good sized batch of your favorite 2-part epoxy like JB Weld or other similar liquid adhesive. Coat the contact surfaces of the inserts. Insert the coated repair brackets fully into the recesses and then let sit overnight. Reinstall handle assembly. Three of the four brackets in this particular kit have slots in them that allow you to mount the T-studs into our insert if your stock mounting point is broken. They also have a mounting point for a new 5mm screw. These features will provide a much more secure mounting point than what is stock. Please note that if you do use the slot or screw mount in our bracket you will likely need to notch the ABS plastic of the stock mount so that the stud sits in it's original position. This is important so that the studs line up with the four holes in the sheet metal of the hatch. The operation can be done with a rotary tool like a Dremel or similar. It can also be done with a hobby knife though it will be slow going. The task will be apparent when the handle assembly is in front of you. Also, if you need to use the slot in our bracket the stud will not protrude quite as far out of the sheet metal but it will be much more than what is adequate to get the nut started. I am both the designer and manufacturer and I have owned a 2005 Prius for 15 years. I developed this kit when my hatch handle started getting noticeably flimsy. I caught it before it completely broke. I fixed it for good so you can install the kit and move on with your life! I modeled the parts on six different handles obtained from the local salvage yard. I found no dimensional variation in the stock parts. This kit fits the "garnish" with 76801-47060 in the casting near the center. I also have a repair kit for the 76801-47050 garnish part which does not have the Smart Key unlock button hole. See last picture above. One of the repair parts is different on that handle. If you need help please take pictures and message them to me with a clear and concise description of the issue so that I might help you with a solution. I want to help! These are solid plastic and will last forever.
