Description: Limoges T&V Sugar w/Lid 2 Handled HandPainted Pink White Flowers Green Gold 1907 Elegant Decorative T&V (Tressemann & Vogt) Fine China 2 HANDLED SUGAR w/LID, Striking Hand Painted by a Talented Artist, PINK & WHITE FLOWERS w/Green Leaves, Scalloped & Embossed , BOLD GOLD TRIM on Rim & near Bottom, unusual Light PURPLE Wash behind the Flowers & on the top, Circa 1907 from Limoges, France DESCRIPTION: This superb quality china has colors that are bright & realistic. This was hand painted by a talented artist on a blank of fine white china. The pink & white flowers are nestled in their green leaves with a light purple wash behind them to give depth to the painting. The handles are painted in a gold paint. The lid is curved to match the curvature of the bowl. Its edge was first painted with the light purple wash, then a broad band of gold was applied over that. The embossed rim next to the foot also has a broad band of gold. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, the condition is superb. We find no nicks, chips, scratches, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. There appears to be absolutely no wear to the colors and no crazing. Look in the photos to see this. DIMENSIONS: The oval sugar bowl is 6 1/2" handle to handle and has a width 3 1/2" with a height of 3 1/4" to the top of the lid. The capacity is 10 ounces. HISTORY/MARKS: Begun in the 1850's, Vogt & Dose became Tressemann & Vogt when Emillien Tressemann joined the company in 1882. This was essentially a decorating studio which began manufacturing their own china in 1891 in Limoges, France. The company continued until it was dissolved due to the retirement of Tressemann in 1907. From 1907-1919, the company operated as Porcelain Gustave Vogt under the direction of Gustave Vogt, John Vogt's son, and continued to use the T&V mark. T&V is well known for its quality whiteware and boldly decorated hand paintings. The marks used on this item are the manufacturers underglaze mark in green referenced in Mary Frank Gaston's Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition as mark #5c used 1892-1907. part of this mark is the patent date of Dec 24 1896 with the design name Venice. It also ahs the red decorator T&V mark #11 used 1907-1919. This sets the circa to be 1907. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
