I wanted to show more of what her and the rest of TLC were about as artists. When I got my hands on this candid photo of Left Eye wearing her "We want our 40 acres and a mule" tee, I knew this was the side I wanted to show. Without getting into a long history lesson, "40 acres and a mule" was part of a sovereignty treaty that basically was revoked illegally without notice. Which is why I added the word "SOVEREIGNTY" in a handwritten style across the bottom of the gritty polaroid. Because sovereignty is another way of saying self sustainable freedom.
