Listed Artist Maria Margaretha Van Os (1779-1862) Signed Watercolor Dahlias

Description: Winner receives a signed watercolor on paper painting by well listed artist Maria Margaretha Van Os (1779-1862). The painting is brilliantly executed and depicts dahlias. It is signed both in the bottom right corner (seen magnified in picture 5), and again on the bottom right verso (see magnified in picture 6). The piece is in excellent condition with no rips, tears, repairs, water damage, or in-painting. The sheet does show some light wear including light wrinkles and marks, most of which will be hidden when framed. This piece is being sold with a matte, but no frame. The painting is coming for sale from the Jon Streep Art Gallery, in New York City. The matte measures roughly 17.75" x 23.5", with the image itself measuring roughly 14.75" x 18.75". Maria Margaretha Van Os (1779 – 1862), was a 19th-century flower painter from the Northern Netherlands.She was born in The Hague as the daughter of the painters Jan van Os and Susanna de la Croix. She was the younger sister of Pieter Gerardus van Os and became the older sister of Georgius Jacobus Johannes van Os and Pieter Frederik van Os. Like her brothers, she was a pupil of her parents; her father was a landscape and still-life artist and her mother made pastel portraits. She is known for fruit and flower still lifes. From 1826 she was an honorary member of the Koninklijke Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. She died in The Hague.
