Description: This Victoria-era, British cover(wrapper) was sent from a London District P.O. to a Captain A. W. Watts of the American Ship, "Leonidas," in care of the American Consul, Newport Monmouthshire, on September 4, 1855! It was delivered the next day. To continue, as for the two, rust red, 1-Pence, QV GB issues, they are both very much misperfed! The stamp on the left is in fair-good condition. It has a vertical crease through its center. It has some shorter perfs. As for the stamp to the right, it has a number of shorter perfs, as well. The London district, bar numeral, "19," cancels are fine! The red, Maltese cross-shaped, date stamp from that London P.O. is pretty good, but somewhat light/faded. The receiver CDS from the Newport Mon P.O. is very fine! Lastly, as for the condition of the wrapper, itself, it's good-very good. It's pretty clean. In addition to creases in the usual places, there is a vertical crease down its center. There is a tear in the "back flap," caused when the wrapper was first opened. Noted imperfections aside, this remains a nifty piece of American maritime postal history actually sent during the Crimean War!
