Description: Powder Compact Lucien Lelong 1st day of Christmas Partridge in a Pear Tree 1940's Novelty TambourineMeasures 2 1/2" round and 1/2" high. This Jingling Tamborine compact was originally sold at Bergdorf Goodman in the 1940's.There is a mirror inside. This is complete with the embossed logo; “LL” (for Lucien Le Long) on the push-opener tambourine ring on front edge. It does not have the original powder puff with it but there is a sifter and some powder left in it. This wonderful Novelty compact is in the shape of a tambourine. This rarity represents the 12 days of Christmas...the song 🎵... “on the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me, a partridge in a pear tree...There are no dings or dents. There is some gold-plated brass metal discoloration near the rings on the side and some surface scratches due to age.This compact novelty shakes in the manner of a tambourine with the attached rings acting as the instrument jingle-jangle! The back is imprinted: “Distributed by Lucien LeLong New York Chicago”The Lid features a stylized turtle dove pair and tree, eight golden rings attached to the compact circumference, lid release logo tag pushes in to open and is imprinted “PUSH.” In 1948 Lucien LeLong packaged a limited Christmas presentation set called, Ting-A-Ling which included “Indiscreet” perfume and this case. For design symmetry three more rings were added to the “five golden rings.” The two turtle doves and pear tree had some liberties taken but are recognizable on the lid.Lucien Lelong was a famous couture designer of women’s fashion in Paris, France in the 1920-40’s.
