It allows us to expand an outlet to be useful to many plugs and uses, such as USB. I would not consider this for travel. There is a post in the back that goes where the center screw is in your current outlet cover. You take out the center screw in your outlet cover, plug in this outlet and put their screw into it so that it is held into place. It is super easy to install and holds to the wall even when pulling out a plug. (We have one without the wall screw and it falls out all the time.) BiggsTheGoalie 5 out of 5 stars Does what it says! I replaced a similar unit in a high-use/traffic area for the sole reason that this one screws into the existing outlet to keep it more secure. So far, its worked flawlessly without any issues. Charging via the USB outlets works as well as some of the higher-output power packs I have, so this is a great replacement. Cheap but seems well-made and simplifies my life. Perfect!
