Description: Maier Hancock Professional 16mm/8mm Warm Splicer, - The Industry Leader and Best Heavy Cast Aluminum with 1/4" thick Machined Steel Plates. Rubber Feet. 5.5 pounds. Carbide Steel Scraper that works well and doesn't go out of adjustment at the wrong moment. It's heated a little so the Film Cement will evaporate faster ,and save about a second per splice. It is the absolute Easiest Splicer anyone has ever built. I include a copy of the Maier Hancock instructions, and a small kit to adjust the scraper with 2 hex wrenches. (Don't do it now, this is adjusted properly for Print Release Stock Film.)Bell & Howell & Triad recognized the excellence of these splicers, and Licensed them for decades, but for some unknown reason let the license lapse, and Maier Hancock started selling them under their own name, and became the most successful brand in the Television Industry. The B&H Filmo versions will be the oldest, and more worn than the MH models. Why are they the best? They are Heavy Cast Aluminum & Thick Machined Steel, and don't move on your bench. They are simple to use, and the Carbide Steel Scraper doesn't go out of adjustment or show wear. They are also slightly heated to help the Film Cement evaporate faster - a major plus in fast paced production environments. People refer to them as HOT Splicers, but that isn't accurate. They are Warm. This one heats up, and it takes about half an hour for all of the models.I recommend NOT plugging them in. If you aren't in a fast paced high pressure production environment, they work just as well cold. And they are still HEAVY, the EASIEST to use, and Don't easily Go Out of Adjustment. You will find them looking brand new, probably from a University or Film Library. You will also find them with missing & damaged paint like this one. That comes from the high pressure production environment where you don't have time to be neat with the film cement. Those have some of the paint under the right blades gone, but most work very well. A second version is larger for 35mm/16mm film - you can recognize it because it has a Red power light on the right side. Current 35mm film doesn't work with Film Cement, and 16mm is handled by retractable pins. I've had requests to include Film Cement with the splicer. I went to the Post Office and researched current regulations. "First Class Package" has been replaced with "Ground Advantage", and It is permissible to include Hazardous Materials such as Film Cement which includes Acetone, but ONLY for Ground shipments. And, just a tip - Film Cement is Mostly Acetone. When the Acetone evaporates, the Cement becomes weaker. However, you can buy Acetone at Home Depot, and also some 99 cent stores carry it as Nail Polish Remover, or better yet, Acetone for Nail Polish Remover. That and an eye-dropper will bring your old Film Cement back to life! I include a Free Kodak 1/4 Oz bottle with brush which should get you 30-40 splices. But you have to use Ground Advantage Shipping. Not allowed with Air Shipping or International. Priority Flat Rate Shipping by Air is a bargain. But if your state touches Arizona - ground is just as fast. *Remember - Film Cement is not included except on Ground Advantage. International shipping can be costly, but in a listing, eBay only offers standardized Global shipping offers. When you have made a purchase, eBay creates a customized shipping page to your exact address. Usually it has some better options. I check them all first, and if any are cheaper or faster with the same or better delivery dates, I switch to that option, and send a refund of the difference. (Recent example: Listing showed $92, but I found a different carrier for $43 that arrived 3 days earlier and refunded the difference.)*But remember that I can't ship the cement on international orders, and these splicers are not adjustable for 220 volts - but work great NOT plugged in.
