Possibly the first printing; the plates were printed in Mainz and the title page engraving is credited "a Mayence et Anvers, chez les Fils de B. Schott" -- some scholars credit the Mainz imprint as the first printing in either 1835 or 1836 -- and the Troupenas imprint is not only distinctly rarer but cited much less frequently and with fewer copies in institutions according to OCLC -- a copy in Australia, one at the Bibliotheque Nationale and one at the Royal Academy of Music in the UK. The upshot is that the jury is out on whether the Troupenas imprint is concurrent with the Schott imprint or was published afterward from the plates. Folio, 13 x 10.25 inches, quarter maroon leather and red paper covered boards, very good, light rubbing and wear to binding, contents very good, moderate foxing throughout. SIGNED by Carcassi on the title page, and with folding plate featuring guitar that is very well known among classical guitar scholars. 103 pp. With laid in engraved sheet from another book, featuring part of a guitar, entitled "Manche de la Guitare..." (some wear, soil, tears). Matteo Carcassi was one of the most influential guitar teachers and composers of the 19th century and, although from Italy, lived in Paris from about 1820 on.
