But of course, pottery is about vessels for function, and if I can generate vessels with my ideas about beauty in mind, then I find a continuing happiness in that space.For me, it’s a lifelong journey of pursuing a contemplative life and trying to let that energy express itself in form and surface and color. One element that adds richness to my ceramics is the use of a high-temperature gas kiln. It’s not as easy to control specific hues of color as in an electric kiln, but the surfaces can have a rich, geological look to them. It’s about that depth of surface that gives something lasting interest. It’s not like you can just look at it and say it’s blue.
