William Holden Maxwell (professionally known as Max Holden; August 20, 1884 – July 3, 1949) was a Scottish-born magician who had a successful career in American vaudeville before partnering with Louis Davenport to open a magic shop in Manhattan in 1929. Max Holden's Magic Shop on 42nd Street soon became the popular place to gather for professional and amateur magicians. Soon there were branches opened in Boston and Philadelphia. The thriving magic shop issued yearly catalogs filled with wonderful magic tricks and props; the catalogs are quite collectible today. The shops were closed when Max Holden died in 1949. This palming coin was sold by Max Holden's shop.. It was sold to magicians as well as distributed by Max Holden as a promotional souvenir. CONDITION: very good. Some wear to faces of coins.
